Biography

Iain MacDonald was Donald Mackay's first signing for the club after achieving promotion to the Premier Division in 1981. The tall, blonde central defender cost the club £38,900 when he joined from Carlisle United.

Iain made a total of eighty-eight appearances in a dark blue jersey during his three year stint at Dens Park. He made his debut against Raith Rovers in the League Cup and scored the first of his seven goals against Rangers, also in the League Cup. His final appearance was against Aberdeen in the Premier Division in April 1984.

After leaving Dundee, he moved on to Arbroath before retiring from the game in 1986.

Iain started his career with Elgin City before joining St. Johnstone in 1972 and was a regular in their side for four seasons before his move to Brunton Park.
