Biography

Declan McDaid progressed through the youth system at Greenock Morton, his hometown club.

Declan made his debut for the club, appearing from the bench in a 5-2 win over Airdrie United in April 2013. After rejecting a full time contract with Morton, Declan signed for Partick Thistle in June 2013, initially playing for the club’s under-20 squad.

The winger made 26 appearances for the club over 3 seasons and spent time on loan at Cowdenbeath in the 2015/16 season where he made 19 appearances, scoring 1 goal.

After leaving Thistle at the end of the January transfer window in 2017, Declan signed for Ayr United on a short term deal until the end of the season. Despite the club’s relegation to League One, Declan signed a new contract and played a key role in the Honest Men’s promotion back to the Championship the following season, scoring 13 goals in 43 appearances in total.

The tricky winger remained a key player for Ayr in the 2018/2019 season, as Ayr finished 4th to secure a playoff place, before losing over 2 legs to Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

Declan penned a 2 year deal to sign for Dundee in June 2019. Deployed as a winger and wing back over the course of the season, Declan scored 3 goals, including a double in a 2-0 win over Arbroath at Dens in October, in 24 appearances in his debut season at Dens Park.

He also chipped in with 3 assists before the season was halted due to the COVID pandemic.
