Biography

One of the few players to have had two spells both with Dundee and Dundee United. His first was when he came on loan from Celtic to Dens Park in 1983-84 season, helping the dark Blues to avoid the drop.

Although Dundee tried to make the deal permanent, he was sold to Nottingham Forest and went onto to make just over forty appearances for them before he was sold to Coventry City. After a season with the Midlands club he came north to Tannadice with his Highfield road teammate Dave Bowman. In his first season at Tannadice, he played in the UEFA Cup final and was capped by Scotland for whom he went on to play ten times.

A member of the United Scottish Cup winning side in 1994, he was released after nine years at Tannadice Jim joined Raith Rovers for whom he played for in Europe, but Tommy McLean brought him back to United for a further spell, before joining Dundee for the second time in 1997.

Signed by John McCormack, he helped Dundee win the First Division title and consolidate their place in the SPL. After those two relatively successful seasons, he was freed, ending his association with the Dark Blues.
