Biography

Shaun Byrne joined the Dunfermline Athletic youth team in 2008 after previously playing youth team football for Celtic. The midfielder made his debut for Dunfermline in 2012, appearing from the bench in a 3-0 defeat of Montrose in the League Cup. Shaun made a total of 115 appearances for Dunfermline and was part of the side that lifted the Scottish League One title in 2015/2016.

After being released by Dunfermline in 2016, Shaun signed for Livingston. Shaun helped Livingston win the League One title in his first season, and promotion to the Premiership in 2018 following a two-legged victory over Partick Thistle in the Play-Off final.

Shaun signed for Dundee in summer 2019 and made 29 appearances in all competitions during his first season at the club.

Byrne played a massive part in guiding Dundee to the Premiership on 2020-21 and on the 10th January 2022, the midfielder signed a new two-year deal to keep him at Dens until 2024.

After the clubs relegation, Byrne found gametime under new manager Gary Bowyer hard to come by and seen his time on the pitch restricted and regularly found himself as an unused sub.

When he was called into action after so long out in the cold, he received quite the ovation when he replaced the injured Joe Grayson in 18 minutes which the Dee went on to win 2-0.

Despite his next four appearances in a Dundee shirt ending in victory, he again found himself out of favour as Dundee won the Championship on the last day of the 2022-23 season.

Despite a new manager coming in after the sacking of Bowyer, Byrne would again find himself struggling to break into the first team and was loaned out to Raith Rovers for the reminder of the 2023-24 campaign.

After leaving Dundee in the summer of 2024, Shaun signed for Raith on a permanent deal.
