Winger Philip Roberts came through the youth system at Arsenal, and was capped by the Republic of Ireland at U17 and U19 level.
The youngster spent time on loan at Inverness Caledonian Thistle, where he scored and assisted in a 4-0 victory over Dundee United. Inverness reached the Scottish League Cup semi-final; however Philip missed the crucial penalty in the shootout and Hearts progressed to the final.
After being released by Arsenal, Philip signed permanently with Falkirk in 2013, and scored 6 goals in 32 games for the Bairns. The winger’s spell at Falkirk was marred by disciplinary issues and a sending off against Alloa Athletic in March 2014 proved to be his final game for the club. A six game ban was handed down by the club and the player’s contract was terminated soon after.
Despite these issues, Dundee gaffer Paul Hartley took a chance on Philip’s talent, and he became the Dees first signing following promotion in 2014. Philip made his debut for the club in a 4-0 victory over Raith Rovers in August 2014, and in his next game Philip’s corner was converted by James McPake in a 1-1 draw against Celtic.
Despite a promising start to his Dundee career, Philip soon found himself relegated to the bench due to the good form of Greg Stewart and David Clarkson. His last performance for Dundee came from the bench in a 3-1 home defeat to St Mirren, and Philip was loaned to Alloa Athletic in February 2015.
Philip returned to Dundee for pre-season, however he was released by the club in August 2015.
Philip signed for Sligo Rovers in February 2016, before playing for a number of clubs in the lower reaches of English football.
