Tom Hateley comes from a footballing family. His father Mark won 32 England caps and played for AC Milan, Monaco and Rangers in an illustrious career.
His grandfather Tony also forged an impressive career as a striker from the 1950s to the 1970s, playing for big clubs including Aston Villa, Chelsea and Liverpool.
Tom began his career as an apprentice at Reading and captained their Under-18 side that won the reserve league in the 2006/2007 season. Tom failed to make an appearance for the first team, and was released in 2009 after loan spell with Basingstoke Town.
The midfielder then signed for Motherwell after a successful trial, and was an ever-present for the Steelmen over the next four seasons.
Tom made over 150 appearances for the club, started in the 3-0 Scottish Cup Final loss to Celtic in 2011, and played in the Europa League and Champions League qualifiers.
After turning down a new contract with Motherwell in 2013, Tom returned to England briefly with Tranmere Rovers, before moving to Poland to sign for Slask Wroclaw in January 2014.
Tom made over 80 appearances for the club in 3 seasons, helping them qualify for the Europa League in 2014/2015.
After his release by Slask Wroclaw Tom returned to the UK, and Dundee eventually fought off interest from a number of clubs to sign the player on a two-year deal in September 2016.
Tom made his debut for Dundee in a 1-1 draw with Kilmarnock on 10 September 2016, and made 28 appearances for the club.
While the midfielder did not score during his time at Dens, he chipped in with a number of important assists, including two in a 2-1 victory over Inverness Caledonian Thistle in November 2016.
Tom departed Dens by mutual consent in August 2017 to return to Poland with Piast Gilwice, helping the club to win the league title for the first time in their history in the 2018/2019 season.
