Biography

Born in Glasgow, Scott Allan is a product of the Dundee United youth setup. While he was a youth player at United, Scott was diagnosed with Type-1 Diabetes, which he has had to learn to cope with throughout his career.

After a short spell on loan to Forfar Athletic in 2010, the midfielder played a number of games for the Dundee United first team early in the 2011/2012 season. However, after negotiations over a new contract between the player and club broke down, Scott was frozen out of the team by Dundee United manager Peter Houston. Scott departed Dundee United to sign for English Premier League club West Bromwich Albion in January 2012.

Scott failed to make any first team appearances for West Brom, and was loaned to Portsmouth, Milton Keynes Dons and Birmingham City during his time with the Baggies. Scott returned north of the border in 2014 to sign for Hibernian. The midfielder enjoyed arguably the best season of his career, making 42 appearances in the Hibs midfield as the Leith club finished 2nd in the league ahead of Rangers.

He was also named PFA Player of the Year for the Championship.

Scott’s form for Hibs attracted interest from Rangers, the club he supported as a boy. Hibs, reluctant to sell their star player to their main rivals for promotion, knocked back several bids from the Ibrox club before accepting an offer from Celtic.

The midfielder arrived at Parkhead in August 2015, with Celtic youngster Liam Henderson joining Hibs on loan for the season as part of the deal. Scott won the first silverware of his career as Celtic won the Premiership title under Ronny Deila. However, he made just 17 appearances in all competitions and spent the following season on loan at Rotherham United.

Unable to force his way into the plans of Deila’s successor, Brendan Rodgers, Scott signed for Dundee on loan for the 2017/2018 season.

Scott added creativity to the Dundee midfield and made an immediate impact with 2 assists in a 2-1 League Cup victory over Raith Rovers in July 2017. The midfielder also provided the assist for Mark O’Hara’s winner against Rangers in November, and scored his only goal for the club in a Scottish Cup victory over Inverness Caledonian Thistle in January 2018.

Although signed on a season loan from Celtic, the agreement was cut short in the January transfer window to enable the player to re-join Hibs on loan. This was part of a series of deals between Dundee, Hibs and Celtic in the transfer window, which also saw Scott Bain and Jack Hendry depart Dens for Celtic, while Simon Murray arrived at Dundee on loan.

After spending the rest of 2017/2018 on loan at Hibs, Scott saw out the remainder of his Celtic contract before signing permanently for the Easter Road outfit in the summer of 2019.
