Biography

Basque defender Jon Aurtenexte is a product of the famous Athletic Bilbao youth system.

After breaking into the first team, Jon made 72 appearances for Bilbao, including the Copa del Rey and Europa League finals in 2012.

During his time at Bilbao, Jon was also loaned to Celta Vigo and Tenerife, before being released by Bilbao in 2016. After short term spells with Mirandes and Amorebieta, Jon departed his native Spain to sign for Dundee in August 2017.

The defender initially signed a short-term contract at Dens, which was subsequently extended to the end of the 2017/2018 season.

Jon made his debut for Dundee from the bench in a 3-1 home defeat to Hamilton Academical in October 2017.

Competing with fellow left back Kevin Holt for a place in the team, Jon made 18 appearances for the club in total. Widely praised for his defensive play, Jon was a popular figure with the Dens Park faithful, who nicknamed him “Basque Jon”.

Released by Dundee at the end of the 2017/2018 season, Jon returned to Spain to sign for Amorebieta.

Since then, he has went onto play for four other teams. Adelaide Comets (South Australia), Atlético Baleares (Spain), Las Rozas (Spain) and Mied? Legnica (Poland).
