Biography

Dundee fan Craig Wighton and came through the youth system at his boyhood heroes, signing his first professional contract on his 16th birthday.

Craig made his debut for the club as a substitute in a 2-0 victory over Cowdenbeath in October 2013. In November, Craig became the youngest scorer in Dundee’s history, netting the second goal in a 2-0 victory over Raith Rovers.

The forward made 14 appearances for the club in his debut season, scoring twice, as Dundee clinched the Championship title and promotion to the Premiership.

Over the following two seasons Craig found himself in and out of the team, and spent time on loan to Brechin City and Raith Rovers to further his development. Returning to the first team in the second half of the 2015/2016 season, Craig scored in the 5-2 victory over Ross County in April 2016. The striker wrote himself into Dundee folklore when he netted a 93rd minute winner in a 2-1 victory over Dundee United at Dens Park in May 2018. The goal sealed Dundee United’s relegation to the Championship.

Craig began to receive more game time in the 2016/2017 season, making 31 appearances across all competitions. The striker netted in victories over Inverness Caledonian Thistle and Motherwell, and contributed 3 assists. However, Craig was unable to build on this season, sustaining ankle ligament damage in July 2017 and missing most of the season, returning to the squad in April 2018.

After scoring in the 4-0 League Cup victory over Stirling Albion in July 2018, and featuring in the league during the opening month of the season, Craig Wighton transferred to Hearts for an undisclosed fee.

After signing a pre-contract with Dunfermline at the start of 2021, Wighton made the move to Fife earlier than planned when Hearts allowed him to join the Pars in February.
