Biography

Midfielder Lewis Spence began his career with Dunfermline Athletic, making his debut in the 2013/2014 season. The following season Lewis established himself in the first team, making 31 appearances in all competitions, scoring once. However, he found game time hard to come by under new manager Allan Johnstone, and was loaned to Brechin City twice in the following two seasons before being released by Dunfermline in 2017.

Dundee manager Neil McCann rated Lewis highly, having coached the player at Dunfermline Athletic, and brought the midfielder to Dens in June 2017. The midfielder made 21 appearances in his first season for the Dees, and was rewarded with a two-year contract extension to June 2020. Lewis scored his only goal for Dundee in a 2-0 victory over Brechin City in the League Cup Group Stage in July 2018, and made a further 16 appearances for the club during the first half of the season.

With Jim McIntyre looking to rebuild the squad in the January 2019 transfer window, Lewis was released from his contract with Dundee.

The midfielder then signed with Championship side Ross County, helping the Dingwall club to lift a double of the Championship title and Challenge Cup. In the summer of 2020, Lewis signed a contract with English side Scunthorpe United.

  • Dundee won the new season’s first competitive match at Dens Park, beating Highland League champions Buckie Thistle 2-0 in the Betfred Cup. Faissal El Bakhtaoui put the Dee ahead in the first half and Sofien Moussa sealed the win late in the game. In spite of dominating possession and near constant attacking Dundee were foiled again and again by Buckie’s keeper Daniel Bell, who thoroughly deserved his man of the match award.

  • Dundee finished their Betfred Cup group D campaign with a 2-0 win over Brechin City that confirmed second spot and a place in the next round. Lewis Spence gave the Dee an early lead with his first goal for the club. Paul McGowan added the second, but Dundee couldn’t turn constant pressure into further goals. Brechin keeper Conor Brennan deservedly won the man of the match award for his heroics, frustrating the Dark Blues’ attackers with a string of fine saves.
