Biography

Aaron Donnelly was signed on-loan during Tony Docherty's first summer in charge of Dundee and would go on to cement his status as a firm fan favourite during that time.

It was heavily rumoured the following summer that Donnelly would again make the switch from parent club Nottingham Forest to the Dee but instead, Dundee would sign other targets and Aaron would join Colchester United on-loan.

When the 2025 January window opened up and Dundee leaking goals and also suffering an injury crisis, Tony Docherty made the move to sign Donnelly on a permanent deal, with the Northern Irishman penning a three-and-a-half-year-deal for an undisclosed fee.

Donnelly found himself straight back in the Dundee first team but at the end of a 4-3 defeat for the Dee at Dens against Rangers in which Donnelly's attempted headed clearance fell into the path of the Rangers striker who would score the winner in injury time, the defender fell out of favour, only seeing minutes on the pitch on the odd occasion.

For the 2025/26 season, the Northern Ireland international made two substitute appearances at the start of the season before completely disappearing from the team at the end of February.

With the sales of Luke Graham and Billy Koumetio in the summer of 2026, Donnelly found himself back in the squad and for two of the League Cup group stage matches, in the starting line up.

Despite the lack of cover however, Dundee still allowed him to leave to join Dunfermline on a season-long-loan.
