Biography

A real character on and off the field, Jason Cummings is a name that's not easily forgotten be it for his wild antics, trademark celebration or the time he thought he was Pirlo.

Cummings started off as a Hearts youth player but due to injuries, he found himself released by the club and playing non-league football. It wouldn't be long until Hibernian came knocking and snapped up the striker in the summer of 2013.

He wouldn't have to wait long to make his debut, which came in the November of that year. He would have to wait to score his first goals which couldn't have happened at a better time when he scored both goals in the 1st leg of the Play-Off Final against Hamilton.

Unfortunately, the Accies managed to fight back in the next leg and took it to penalties. Cummings would step up to take one, knowing if he missed, Hibs were down and that's just what happened.

In 2016, Cummings would yet again be in the spotlight because of a penalty kick. This time, he attempted a Panenka in a Scottish Cup Semi-Final against Dundee United which went over the bar. To make amends, he did slot home the winning penalty in the shoot-out of that match to send Hibs to the final.

In that final he helped the Edinburgh team defeat Rangers to end a 114-year wait to lift the cup.

The following season, he helped guide Hibs to the Scottish Championship title and in the process, scored 23 goals. Along with the previous two seasons where he scored 21 and 25 goals, he became the fist Hibs player since 1957 and 1961 to score over twenty goals in three successive season.

Despite signing a new four-year deal in 2016, Cummings made his move down south to Nottingham Forest, in a deal thought to be around £1 million pound.

He only made 17 appearances, scoring 4 goals for Forest but he still caught the eye of Gordon Strachan who gave him his first cap against Holland.

Jason would see his time at Forest spent out on loan. First he joined Rangers before spells at Peterborough United and Luton Town.

In September 2019, he joined Shrewsbury Town and the fans down there will remember him fondly when he came off the bench to score two-goals to draw against Liverpool in the FA Cup, then celebrating at the final whistle with an inflatable Kings hat.

After leaving Shrewsbury, Cummings was back up in Scotland, this time to sign for Dundee. His 8 goals in 18 appearances helped the club gain promotion via the Play-Offs.

The following season, Cummings found first team starts hard to come by, with only 6 appearances from the starting XI and 12 from the bench. Despite this, he still found himself with 6 league goals to his name before he was axed by the club.

The striker showed up to the at a midweek event at the Hydro, without asking the club permission to do so and danced on the stage dressed like the Joker. The following day, he was sent home from training with both sides giving different accounts why and this was effectively the end of Jason's Dundee career.

The striker joined Australian outfit Central Coast Mariners in January 2023, just shy of a year since he joined the Dark Blues.
