Biography
Irishman Jonathan Afolabi was snapped up by Celtic in 2019 from the Southampton youth academy. He had previosuly been a youth at Shamrock Rovers and St Jospehs Boys.
He was first loaned out to Dunfermline where he scored twice in 6 appearances but his time was brought to an early end there because of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Afolabi then joined Dundee the following season and scored on his home debut in a 1-0 win over Morton.
He failed to live up to expectations while at Dens Park and in the 22 appearances he made for the Dark Blues, 17 of them were from the substitutes bench.
Though he failed to impress, 3 of his 4 goals he scored did prove to be worthwhile for the Dee.
His first was the match winner against Morton while his second was a penalty in our home match to put us 3-1 ahead against Hearts. His most important was undoubtedly his 94th minute equaliser against Bonnyrigg Rose in the Scottish Cup which took the tie into extra time and saved Dundee the blushes of being on the receiving end of an all-time cup upset.
For the third season in a row, Afolabi was loaned out, this time to Championship side Ayr United.
