Biography

A small, but tricky winger, who was signed in the 1966 close season from Sunderland by Bobby Ancell, and was a pretty permanent member of the side in the late sixties.

The Northern Ireland Under-23 internationalist was to patrol the right wing beat at Dens for the next three and a half years, going on to win full international honours.

Billy played a key role in the side that lost out in the 1967 League Cup Final and progressed to the semi-final of the Fairs Cup in the same season.

During season 1969-70, however, he started to struggle to command a regular first team place and joined Motherwell in an exchange deal, which brought Jimmy Wilson to Dens in the summer of 1970.

After four years at Fir Park, he returned to his native Northern Ireland to play, but did return to Motherwell for a spell in the late seventies as assistant to manager Willie McLean.
