A night of firsts paved the way for a Dundee success in last night's challenge match to mark the opening of the two new stands at Dens Park.
Dutchman Frank van Eijs and new English capture Nicky Banger both grabbed their first goals for the Dark Blues in a spectacular recovery for a home side which had played second fiddle to their Greek visitors for almost the entire opening half.
The Dundee fans were delighted with the performance of Banger, captured from Oxford the previous day, and were also encouraged to learn that two of the top Aris players afield could be those destined to join the club. Midfielder Georgios Theodoris and striker Agelos Xaristeas looked the part.
Judging by their performances last night both would be good additions to Jocky Scott's squad.
However, a disappointment for the organisers of the contest was the poor crowd of just 2415.
Despite Aris enjoying the bulk of the possession during the early stages, it still took a couple of smart stops by their keeper Alexandros Delíos to prevent efforts from Steven Boyack and James Grady.
But in 20 minutes Aris were in front, with a fine goal which followed a three-man move.
Daniel Lima timed hist run behind the home defence to perfection and his cross was laid back by Xaristeas into the path of Georgios Georgiadis, who shot home from 15 yards.
From then until half-time. the Greeks appeared to treat the game as a training session. An Eddie Annand pass almost caught them out. but Grady hesitated in attempting to finish and the chance was lost.
Dundee made three substitutions inside the first half-hour, with Van Eijs and Banger among them, and both men contrived to fire the home side back into contention.
After Van Eijs had seen a shot deflected by the keeper onto the post, he struck gold with a goal four minutes after the interval. Mind you, he looked as surprised as anyone that his speculative 35-yard attempt at a cross found the back of the net.
Dundee drove on and their second promptly arrived in the 59th minute via Van Eijs and Banger. The former's pass through the defence found Banger. who netted from 12 yards.

The Aris response was swift, Georgiadis grabbing his second of the night with a superb 25-yard free-kick.
Aris looked the likelier outfit to find a winner but it was Dundee who clinching matters with five minutes to go. Hugh Robertson picked out Grady, who slid the ball home.
