Match Report

Newspaper extract from The Sunday Post.

A late penalty save denied Caley Thistle a draw in their last pre-season match before next week's League Cup tie at Stenhousemuir.

The newly promoted First Division side gave a good account of themselves throughout and welcomed back Ian Stewart and youngster Martin Bavidge to lead their attack against Dundee.

Caley were first to threaten and a long clearance from Tokeley caught Steven Tweed in two minds. Only an instinctive save from Douglas denied the home side the opener.

Dundee retaliated and, three minutes later, a sweeping move involving Grady and Falconer ended with Robertson firing in a 20-yarder that Calder held at full stretch.

Midway through the first half, and with the home side growing in confidence, Sheerin tested Douglas with a 20-yard effort, but the keeper made a superb save.

Eight minutes from the interval, the home side fell behind to a bizarre effort.

Shaun McSkimming sent over an inviting cross that caught Calder flat footed, and his effort curled over the keeper and into the net via the far post.

Falconer should have extended the lead three minutes later, but contrived to shoot wide with Calder beaten.

Caley deservedly drew level in the second half. Tokeley crossed and Robson fired in a powerful effort that Douglas blocked, but the loose ball broke to the ever-alert Ian Stewart, who swept the ball into the net.

Dundee hit right back and, a minute later, they were back in front. Eddie Annand took a pass from Coyne to race clear and beat Calder.

The home side were awarded a penalty in the final minute when Miller handled a Robertson effort.

However, Douglas pulled off a fine save to deny Sheerin and give the Dens Parkers victory.
