Match Report

Zura Khizanishvili's return from a ten month injury was the high point of a dull match at Pittodrie which ended with both sides reasonably satisfied with a point, but producing little for the punters to get excited about.

The Georgian's entry to the action came with seven minutes left and A he was used in an unfamiliar midfield role, unfamiliar to Dundee fans that is as Zura has often played that role for his country.

In five minutes Speroni did wonderfully well to get down to his left and palm away Mike's header from Derek Young's cross and eleven minutes later Young's brother Darren found space to fire in a 25-yarder but Gavin Rae got in a great block to deflect the ball for a corner.

Rae had a fine first half against his hometown team and he had Dundee's first real effort a minute later picking up a Caballero lay off and firing just over from 20 yards.

Aberdeen claimed a penalty after 33 minutes as Mike went down when challenged by Hutchinson, but Mike McCurry waved the protests away, two minutes later a 30-yarder from Novo was held at the base of his left hand post by the impressive Kjaer.

It was first half stoppage time which brought the best chance of the half, Darren Young's through ball found his brother advancing and Tom Hutchinson slipped at the vital moment to allow Young a clear run in on goal. he advanced to 20 yards from the target and let fly only for Speroni to fingertip the ball onto the upright and gather the rebound.

Dundee caused panic in the Dons area in the first minute of the second period as Wilkie rose to head Nemsadze's comer into a crowded six yard box, but the home side managed to scramble it away.

Aberdeen had a golden opportunity in 72 minutes as Derek Young laid the ball into Deloumeaux's path but the midfielder pulled his shot well wide form 15 yards.

Then came Dundee's best opportunity as Caballero fired in a low drive from a free-kick which Milne deflected towards Novo in space seven yards out, the ball went behind the Spaniard and he had to spin and shoot in one movement and couldn't get his effort on target.

Dundee hit back with a Steven Milne drive from 25 yards but although it was fiercely hit it was straight at Kjaer.

There was a flurry of substitutions as the two managers tried to make something happen and it was Dundee's turn to have a penalty claim turned down. Milne being pulled to the ground by Anderson, it seemed a clear-cut award but the referee flatly refused it.

With the game deep into injury time Speroni saved the day as Darren Young fired in a drive from the edge of the box, the ball clipped the heel of a Dundee defender and changed direction but as the keeper flew to his night he stuck out a hand to his left and finger tipped it away from the goal leaving Wilkie to complete the clearance.
