Match Report

In a woeful first half Motherwell didn't manage one shot on target, while the visitors managed one solitary effort when Gavin Rae brought out a save from Goram.

The game lacked passion and it was a full 20 minutes before a foul was committed.

Dundee, to their credit, took the game to Motherwell and created most of the early chances. Falconer and Robertson were both set up, but their efforts went well over.

When Motherwell finally got going their build-up play was impressive enough coming down both flanks, but a Denholm mis-hit summed up their lack of finishing power.

Motherwell's John Spencer set up Corrigan in the 35th minute, but his effort went well over.

With the first half best forgotten, Motherwell re-started brightly with

Twaddle coming close, but nobody was ready for what happened next.

Just three minutes later, Dundee's Hugh Robertson let go an absolute humdinger of a shot from all of 35 yards and Goram could do nothing to get to it. This was a tremendous goal.

Billy Davies brought on chief executive Pat Nevin and Don Goodman, but worse was to follow for the home team. Just minutes later, a fine one-two between Bayne and Rae set the latter up for Dundee's second. Again, superbly put away.

Shell-shocked Motherwell kept their composure with Spencer and Nevin prodding some fine openings, but to no avail. Spencer came closest with just five minutes to go, but Douglas held well.

Dundee made it three when Kemble was judged to have tripped Smith, and from the spot James Grady, a late substitute, made no mistake.

This one Billy Davies will want to forget, while Jocky Scott will be delighted with three valuable away points.

In a very sporting encounter, Kemble for Motherwell and Falconer for Dundee for dissent, were the only bookings.

Man of the Match + HUGH ROBERTSON for that goal.
