Match Report

A superb Gary Bollan strike prevented what would have been the crime of the century.

Dundee were leading from their one attack of the afternoon, and seemed to be holding out against the desperate Perth men.

Then, five minutes from time, Bollan took a short free-kick from John O'Neil to blast his 20-yard drive past Robert Douglas.

Roddy Grant hit the post in the final minute and then, in an incredible finale, Dundee's Willie Miller was sent off for stamping on Bollan.

If that sounds dramatic, it was nothing compared to the furore 16 minutes from time when Saints. should have gone ahead.

Referee John Underhill waved aside claims for a blatant penalty when O'Neil was clearly pulled down by Robbie Raeside.

And, as Saints slept, Dariusz Adamczuk raced clear into the home half. Although Alan Main half blocked his shot, the ball just beat John McQuillan to the net.

That was as incredible as it had been unlikely, for Main had not made a single save in a one-sided Tayside derby.

St Johnstone found an even higher gear after the break and, in 61 minutes, Paul Kane's flick created a chance for O'Neil. Again his drive was held by Douglas.

The Dundee keeper saved from a Bollan 20-yard drive 60 seconds later, before Lowndes missed the chance of the match.

Connolly's shot from 12 yards was superbly blocked by Douglas, but, when the ball spun up to Lowndes at the far post, he knocked it over from three yards.

In addition to Miller's red card, Dundee's Rogers and Grady were booked, along with Saints' Lowndes.
