Match Report

Dundee's great away record was never under any real threat at Broadwood. Although Airdrie did give it their all, the Dens men can look upon this excellent victory as the one which seals their championship quest.

With Raith losing to Morton. it will take an earth-shattering shift in points and goal difference to prevent Jocky Scott's men winning a place in the Premier Division.

With the wind at their backs, it was Dundee who threatened to open the scoring as early as the fifth minute. Only a great last-ditch tackle by Kenny Black denied Magee.

Brian McPhee carried the main threat for Airdrie, and he came close in the 15th minute with a glancing header.

However, it was the Dark Blues who took the lead two minutes later. Barry Smith's clearance saw Eddie Annand leave the Airdrie back four trailing, before he squeezed the ball past John Martin from 12 yards.

Airdrie battled back, and almost scored when Kenny Black's 25-yard free-kick came off the bar.

The Diamonds persisted, and got their reward when Stevie Cooper's quick turn and shot from 15 yards gave Douglas no chance.

The second half looked as if it was going to peter out, with both sides pressing without creating any real chances.

Then Jocky Scott threw on subs Anderson and McCormick in the hope of getting the winner.

His dreams came true six minutes from time when Anderson's excellent free-kick put Grady clear on the right, and his cross found McCormick at the far post to net from three yards.

That set off the Dens fans' celebrations, and it looks as if these will continue for quite a while as they enjoy the prospect of the big time next season.
