Match Report

Dundee might possibly have suffered their first league defeat of the season, but a five-star performance and winning goal from the highly-effective Iain Anderson was, in the end, too much for a spirited Ayr United.

The visitors took the game to Ayr and totally dominated the early proceedings.

Not unexpectedly, they took the lead when Ayr's John Robertson failed to clear with a header.

Instead, Eddie Annand got up to score his fifth goal in as many league games. He won't get an easier header, and Dundee's £70,000 purchase from Clyde looks a winner.

Earlier, Iain Anderson stood out as he dodged and weaved his way into dangerous areas.

In the 39th minute, he looked to have put Dundee further ahead, but his fine individual effort was well saved by Ayr's keeper David Castilla.

Although Dundee almost scored from yet another Anderson effort one minute into the second half, Ayr stormed back and put the visitors under the cosh for long periods.

The home team deservedly got an equaliser in the 61st minute when good work from Ferguson let Henderson in for a fine header.

Ayr United hammered away and looked to have enough to strike a winner, but back came the league leaders and the tide again turned.

Dundee's James Grady had two brilliant efforts saved by Castilla before Ayr gave away a penalty.

Love upended substitute O'Driscoll and up stepped Anderson to put the ball away after a second attempt. Ayr couldn't be faulted for effort, but yet again Dundee came away with maximum points.
