Manager's Programme Notes

As another season draws to a close, it is time to reflect on what has undoubtedly been a disappointing one.

By way of compensation, the Club did reach two Hampden Finals and even though neither bore fruit, I would like to congratulate the players on their efforts. Both the Coca-Cola and BP Youth Cup Finals were enjoyable days out and let's hope that it isn't another twenty years before we grace the National Stadium in the final of at competition.

I don't have to tell you that a lot of negotiating will be going on over the summer months with so many players out of contract. All I can say is that we will be doing our best to have as many of our better players available again next season.

In addition, we have some young players making good progress and here I would ask our fans to give them a helping hand.

Even players of the quality of Paul Gascoigne make mistakes. It is just that better players make fewer of them and I feel that sometimes we are all a bit too critical. We all want them to do well for the club, so I would ask our supporters to encourage the up and coming youngsters as much as possible, because being given the right backing can help the youngsters develop by leaps and bounds.

Finally, I would like to thank all of our supporters who have stuck by us during what I realise has been a difficult season. Hopefully we can all recharge our batteries over the close season and improve our league performances next season.

I, hopefully, look forward to welcoming you and a few more who aren't here today back at Dens Park in August.

Till then, enjoy your summer holidays.
