Manager's Programme Notes

It would be stating the obvious that recent performances have fallen well short of expectations and I don't intend to labour the point here!

The only way in which we can reverse our recent poor form is by sheer hard work. There is, unfortunately no magic formula. The players can all play better than they have of late and the quicker they find their true form the better.

And I would ask your assistance here because whilst I fully appreciate that you pay your money and have the right to criticise, at the moment the players need all the encouragement so they can relax and rediscover the form which stood us so well in the first three months of the season.

Now would probably be the time for us to go out and strengthen the squad, but resources, unfortunately, do not permit me that luxury.

There is still plenty to play for. We are still more than capable of closing the gap on the leaders and there are plenty of games left. It is just a question of getting our heads down and striking a winning note.

To end on a more positive note, can I add my congratulations to the Youth team on reaching the semi-finals of the BP Youth Cup. For so long Dundee United have held the upper hand when it comes to matches at this level, so it was particularly pleasing to see our youngsters come from behind to pip them the week before last.

Hopefully, the first team can take the lead from the youngsters and start their rehabilitation with a victory over Airdriconians this afternoon.
