Manager's Programme Notes

"There's a lot of work to be done"

Almost two months ago I was quoted as saying that we needed to be patient and we need time to be successful again. I received a letter from a fan who said that all previous managers had said the same thing. He then proceeded to mention all their names. He finished by saying that we've been patient long enough!!

The more I thought about it the more I reckoned he was right. Dundee fans have shown great resolve over the years. But patient for what? League championship? Scottish Cup? Qualification for Europe? I thought I saw a light at the end of the tunnel because before last Saturday's very disappointing display - in fact, on form, over the previous seven games we were in second place only to Rangers.

Yes there's a lot of work to be done! The players I inherited have worked very hard but I want more consistency and utter belief from them. Standards have to be set higher. They have never to be satisfied... never!

Letter of the week... just arrived this morning...came from Derek Folganan of Downfield. Appears a very caring supporter... thanks for the names! We are going to build on the present squad. I'm glad you mentioned 'Hibs' as a great example because being only three points behind them with a game in hand certainly speaks volumes for our players. Finally I would like to think I was the man to put the team back among the best in Scotland. Only time will tell!!

Again thanks to everyone who gave their tremendous support last Saturday. Same again today!

Yours aye,
Dave.
