Manager's Programme Notes

So what persuaded Smith to give up a safe job at Plymouth and put his reputation on the line with Dundee?

"Angus Cook and his belief and desire to see Dundee transformed into a top of the table club was the clinching factor" explained Smith. And he added: "The Chairman's enthusiasm and commitment to Dundee was evident in our discussions and I was convinced that I could follow a man of his stature"... so reported one newspaper, and I can say that I meant every word I said! Angus Cook is a visionary and Dundee supporters should be proud of this factor.

I am not a fool to promise things and you cannot wave a magic wand.

Success with Dundee will require three things! Hard work and vital commitment by everyone at the club. The players we have at this moment have all to improve and I know I haven't seen the best of them yet. Perhaps today?

2. Patience and charity by all you fans. You are the lifeblood of this club and sometimes more important than the players. Be patient a bit longer - we can make it together, I know we can!

3. Finally a belief that we CAN succeed! Mr Cook has that belief, I believe too. The players must begin quickly to believe in themselves. All beliefs must have at beginning but it will take time to change!!

We have a tough opening encounter today. We are told we are the underdogs. But I know you're vocal support will be essential-no-vital to our performance. Could this be the beginning today?

Let's give Aberdeen a real Dundee welcome!
