Newspaper extract from The Sunday Post .
The kick-off was held up as the THE referee and groundsmen repaired a fault in the net. But they need hardly have bothered as Falkirk suffered their third successive defeat in a disappointing match.
The Bairns found out yet again how difficult life and goalscoring is going to be in this higher league against a non-too-impressive Dundee.
The hosts started in determined mood to wipe out the memory of their surprise midweek defeat but apart from a fine effort by Irvine, early play was confined to midfield.
The visitors' more studied build-up seldom troubled George Watson until a fine running cross by McKinlay almost caught the 'keeper out.
Falkirk's strike force of Irvine and Gilmour worked hard but too often suffered from lack of support from midfield while Dundee's lack of pace in the final third of the field made the Falkirk defence's job much easier.
Dundee restarted in a much more determined fashion and, in only two minutes, Ray Stephen finished off the best move of the match involving Shannon and Brown when he cleverly curled his shot past Watson from 15 yards.
Falkirk fought back enthusiastically, but lacked the guile in midfield to open up the visiting defence and when Dundee pushed forward, it took a great double save by Watson from McKinlay and Shannon to keep them in the game.
But there was no further scoring, and the Falkirk fans were none too happy when the final whistle sounded.
Best for the home team were Watson, Purdie and Irvine, while the Dark Blues were best served by Duffy, Brown and McKinlay.
