Match Report

All the excitement in this Tayside derby was reserved for the last four minutes.

First St Johnstone grabbed the only goal to close the gap on relegation rivals Dundee to a single point. Then Dens Park skipper Cammy Fraser was booked only a minute later.

Saints' winner was set up by Alan Lyons from a free- kick to the right of the Dundee penalty area. His well-placed cross was met by Doug Barron's head about 15 yards out, giving Colin Kelly no chance.

Dundee's reply was immediate. And when Harris met McCall's cross with his forehead, his claims for a penalty seemed reasonable, as a St Johnstone arm had kept the ball from crossing the line.

However, the referee was having none of it, and Fraser's over-zealous appeals ended in a booking.

Over the piece, Saints were probably the more likely side. In a poor match, they forced the Dundee defence into several uncertain situations.

The best move of the game came in the 35th minute when Beedie released Lyons up the Saints right and Kelly did well to turn away Alan's fierce drive.

Three minutes after the break, Baines made a similar type save from McCall to keep St Johnstone from falling into arrears.

There were three bookings in addition to Fraser-Scott and Caldwell, of St Johnstone, for bad fouls, and Ferguson, of Dundee, following an off-the-ball incident
