Skipper Cammy Fraser is out of the Dundee side through suspension. Kelly, Glennie and Kidd are also left out as the Dens Park side seek their first league victory.
Motherwell, also without a win, play Edvaldsson up front.
McKinley lines up at left-back and McKimmie in the centre of midfield. A free-kick 25 yards from goal gives the Dens defenders their first spot of bother. The ball is not cleared and a Mauchlen shot strikes a defender and goes past.
Forbes turns a Richardson shot past goal close to the post, then Carson sends 'keeeper Walker scrambling to collect a passback.
Dundee 'keeper Geddes punches a Flavell cross out of the penalty area, then holds the ball securely at McFadden's feet.
Dornan races to the edge of the penalty area to shoot, but Geddes dives to his left to push the ball past.
Geddes gets the applause again for a fine save from an Edvaldsson header.
Walker races from goal to smother a Ferguson shot with his feet.
Ferguson picks up a clearance 30 yards from goal and hits a left foot shot which Walker pushes past in grand style. McFadden is booked for pulling down Andy Geddes.
McGeachie's free-kick is headed away by Carson. Edvaldsson can't get his head to the ball when he is alone in front of goal as a Dorman cross arrives.
A Richardson shot from 25 yards flies over the Motherwell bar but Dundee are not getting into shooting positions often enough.
Andy Geddes is booked for a foul on Mauchlen.
A minute later he hits an 18 yard shot which is just a couple of feet wide.
Just on half-time McKimmie is booked, apparently for saying something.
Half-time score-Motherwell 0, Dundee 0.
Reflection-Top class goalkeeping at both ends is the redeeming feature of an undistinguished game. There has been no one to supply a touch of originality.
A Richardson pass opens up the way to goal for McCall until Forbes steps in with a perfectly-timed tackle.
Stephen tries to surprise Walker with a quick shot from 25 yards but is a yard wide.
A McCall shot from 25 yards lacks power. The goal the game needs comes in 55 minutes-Dundee's first league goal away from home this season.
Ferguson sends Richardson off on the left. A pass inside finds MCCALL 12 yards from goal. He nets a low shot.
Almost two minutes later Stephen takes a pass from McKinlay at the corner of the goal area and hits a low shot which Walker just manages to block at the post. Andy Geddes hits a vicious right foot shot which Walker touches onto and over the bar.
In 65 minutes McKinley downs Flavell in the box. Dorman hammers the spot kick low to Geddes' right but he dives to touch the ball against the post.
Dorman hits the rebound over the bar. Ferguson dives to head in a headed pass from McCall and Walker gathers with ease.
In 71 minutes Dundee increase their lead. Ferguson sends a great ball forward and McKimmie chases
it without looking like getting possession. MCLEOD steps in to put the ball back to his keeper and lobs it beautifully over Walker's head and into the net.
Lightning strikes twice! Two minutes later McKinlay crosses a fast, low ball and CARSON turns it into his own net.
In the last minute EDVALDSSON scores with a close-in header from a Harrow cross.
Final-Motherwell 1, Dundee 3.
Summing up-Home hopes were shattered in eight fatal minutes as Geddes made his great penalty save and defenders conceded two own-goals.
Geddes played the major role in Dundee's first league win.
