Match Report

Dundee start against Aberdeen in the Scottish Cup fourth round tie at Pittodrie with the same eleven which drew at Ibrox a fortnight ago. Bobby Glennie gets a place on thenbench.

For Aberdeen it is the same team which went to the top of the league with that victory over Celtic.

Doug Bell keeps his place with John McMaster on the bench.

A promising Dundee break is halted on the half- way line by Rougvie fouling Mackie. The free comes to nothing.

Weir crosses low into Kelly's box but Stephen is on hand to take the sting out of the ball and the keeper gathers. Aberdeen force a corner on the right but McGhee's back header from Weir's kick goes harmlessly over.

A fine run by Aberdeen's Bell takes him past two defenders and to the byline but Kelly does well to cut out his cross.

The Dens Park side have lucky escape in 16 a minutes. McGhee touches on a Kennedy cross but Rougvie misses the chance, heading well over from close range.

Play is halted as Davie Bell of Dundee requires treatment for injury.

In 26 minutes a Dundee defender manages to deflect away a powerful Bell volley.

Black rises to meet Weir's inswinging corner, but his header comes back off the crossbar.

Dundee strike back Sinclair makes room on the right and crosses deep to the back post. Ray Stephen gets his head tothe ball but Leighton produces a marvellous save to defy him.

In 33 minutes a fine Mackie cross gets the Don's defenders into difficulties and young Black clears at the expense of a corner.

Two minutes later Kelly is Dundee's hero. Bell cuts back from the bye-line for Rougvie to head powerfully but Kelly dives full length to hold the big defender's effort.

And then in 37 minutes the big 'keeper again saved Dundee blocking at the feet of McGhee.

Half-time - Aberdeen 0, Dundee 0.

Reflections - A fighting performance from the Dens Park men.

The second half is only a minute old when Dundee go behind.

Weir waltzes down the left and crosses to the near post. Black misses out on the ball but SIMPSON is on hand and gives Kelly no chance.

Skipper Cammy Fraser goes down injured on the far touchline with a head in- jury but he recovers after treatment

In 51 minutes Peter Mackie intercepts a short pass-back by Kennedy but the ball runs away from him and his shot from a tight angle is held by Leighton.

Kelly comes to Dundee's rescue a minute later parry- ing a powerful close range drive from Black. Suddenly the Dens Park defence was under real pressure. Kelly manages to hold a Cooper 20-yarder and then Simpson sees a crashing drive go inches over.

Stephen goes down after a crushing tackle by Kennedy and has to be assisted from the park. Jim Murphy takes his place.

A Fraser free-kick looks threatening and Rougvie is forced to concede a corner.

In 69 minutes Miller has a great chance to secure Aberdeen's passage. But the Dons' skipper shoots weakly at Kelly and the 'keeper gathers easily. Dundee sub.

Glennie comes on for Bell in 78 minutes with McGeachie moving into the midfield.

Kelly again does well a couple of minutes later saving a Weir shot from the edge of the box.

MacDonald and McGhee collide on the edge of the box and Aberdeen get a free kick. Fortunately for Dundee, it comes to nothing.

Rougvie of Aberdeen is booked seven minutes from time for a foul on Mackie and from the free kick Eric Sinclair is only just off target with a close range flick.

In the dying minutes Cammy Fraser earns a caution for a trip on Eric Black.

Final-Aberdeen 1, Dundee 0.

Reflections - A brave Dundee performance.
