Match Report

Bobby Glennie is dropped from the Dundee side at Ibrox, Iain MacDonald returns.

Rangers rely on youth in the shape of McPherson, Black, Dalziel, Kennedy and MacDonald. Missing are experienced hands Johnstone, Stevens, Cooper and MacKinnon.

Dundee are put under immediate pressure, but break quickly only for Mackie to be offside twice. In four minutes Rangers miss a glorious opening. Dalziel puts Kennedy through, but he delays and Kelly dives at his feet to grab the ball.

McCloy saves Rangers when he touches a clever shot from Ferguson past the post. Then he twice blocks shots from Sinclair.

Dundee are lucky when a Bett shot beats Kelly, but cracks against the post.

The young Dundee 'keeper makes a great double save from MacDonald. A hectic start in heavy rain.

McGeachie, 24 today, takes a return pass from Mackie to hit a left-foot shot to the far post, but the cross is wasted. Prytz is next to test Kelly with a 20-yard, left- foot shot which the 'keeper holds confidently.

Bett collects the ball and uses it well three times, but his final cross cannons off Smith and goes past.

McGeachie is spoken to by the referee after a foul on MacDonald and the move started by the free kick ends with a MacDonald shot being stopped on the line by Smith. Kelly is on the spot to block at close range a shot by McPherson.

Mackie breaks on the right and beats Black, but McCloy grabs the cross from Sinclair's feet.

Dalziel is having a great game for Rangers and much of the danger to Dundee is coming from the right. On the other side Black is being given acres of space to move up, but his crosses lack precision.

Sinclair takes a knock on his ankle.

When Bett is brought down by Smith just outside the penalty area, Redford's free goes over.

In one of Dundee's best attacking moves Ferguson sends the final pass intended for Stephen, straight to a defender.

Next move Stephen is off side.

Half-time- Rangers 0, - Dundee 0.

Reflections This is an entertaining game with most of the moves coming from a revitalised Rangers. The Dundee defence is good but has had their share of luck.

SECOND HALF.

MacDonald makes a despairing dive to try to reach a Dalziel cross.

Smith heads away another cross from Kennedy and when Black is sent clear by McClelland he overhits his cross.

A throw-in by Fraser is hit across goal by Sinclair and a Ferguson header goes past the far post with Stephen just failing to get a McKimmie Intercepts a long crossfield pass and uses the ball well, but the move ends with a Fraser shot yards wide.

A Kennedy cross catches out the Dundee defence and Dalziel gets in a shot which Smith stops on the line. The ball breaks from his foot straight into the hands of Kelly.

Rangers go in front in 58 minutes. MCPHERSON gets the ball from Bett and races in on goal from the left to hit an accurate shot between the advancing Kelly and the post.

Dundee come out to get something from the game. A 20-yard drive from Bell is no problem for McCloy. Kelly has to show more skill to get down to hold a shot from Prytz.

Sinclair turns quickly on a free kick from Fraser to hit a rising shot which brings the best from McCloy

The Rangers 'keeper punches another Fraser free from the head of the flying Stephen. A Ferguson header from yet another Fraser free spins past the far post.

Kelly drops a cross ball from Dawson, but recovers quickly to rob Dalziel. The Dundee 'keeper also has to make a good save to hold a McGeachie passback after a Mackie mistake.

When McClelland desperately turns a Mackie cross across his goal a Ferguson header scrapes past the wrong side of the post.

Their best move produces a Dundee equaliser in 76 minutes.

It starts with one of Fraser's special crossfield passes which is perfect for McKimmie.

His cross is just missed by Ferguson, but in a full- scale stramash in front of goal BELL heads in from a few yards.

There's another chance a few minutes later when the Ibrox defence look in disarray, but Ferguson and Bell fail to hit the bouncing ball into the net.

McCloy saves the home bacon when he pushes away a Ferguson shot.

The Ibrox men hit back and Smith boots the ball high into the stand.

In the last minutes Bell almost kills Rangers with a second goal but his low shot lacks direction and power.

Final Rangers 1, Dundee 1.

Reflections - Rangers created enough chances in the opening minutes to have the points safely in the bag. But Kelly and liberal helpings of luck kept them out. Then Dundee came to life.
