I have a confession to make. I went along to Ibrox expecting to see the greatest Rangers goalrush since Methuselah was a boy. I sat back, relaxed, and waited. And waited. And waited.
I was so relaxed, when the first goal arrived i could barely keep my eyes open. An avalanche of goals with Dundee on the receiving end? That's a laugh! With less of the ball they created many more chances than Rangers.
Why should this be? After all, only one team on the park was supposed to be in with a chance of winning the Premier League.
Well, I suspect the midweek battle against the Germans might have taken more out of Rangers than most folk thought.
It could also be, of course, when Jim Bett and Davie Cooper don't turn it on, neither does the rest of the team. I have seen Bett better and Cooper was short of being super duper.
It could be, of course, I'm not giving Dundee the credit they deserve. They looked mighty, sweet to me at times.
They have, however, developed the worrying habit of putting away a heck of a lot fewer chances than they make. But to the long-awaited goals which were gratefully received by one and all in the stadium. For a long time we didn't look like getting any.
The first was a real struggle.
It went thus Jim Bett tried a pot-shot from the edge of the box. No danger was imminent until his trundler skited off lain MacDonald straight across to Derek Johnstone. D. J. didn't connect properly. But his bouncing toe-ender, despite the goalie getting a touch, did succeed in getting over the line, and no more.
The equaliser left the Rangers back lot staring at the heavens with egg on their faces-they were all over the place when lain Ferguson floated one in from the left.
And they still hadn't regrouped when Cammy Fraser picked up the ball on the right, and smashed it into the corner from a tightish angle!
Rangers' best were Jim Stewart, John McClelland, and the ever busy Robert Prytz. The rest had a massive German hangover.
Dundee? Neat, tidy, and can miss a pinch at the drop of a hat. Colin Kelly, Bobby Glennie and speedy Peter Mackie were that wee bit better than the others.
There were a couple of first half bookings. Cammy Fraser for missing John MacDonald with one wild swing, and making sure with the second, And Colin McAdam for clattering Peter Mackie to the ground and hammering him in like a tack,
