Match Report

Newspaper extract from The Sunday Post.

Thank heaven for little goals! Two great counters and a good one we had here....otherwise precious little.

All the goals came within eight minutes, which was a bonus in view of what had gone before.

Kenny Watson started the scoring spree with a great dash down the left and a cross which Maurice Johnston fairly bulleted home with his ginger nut.

Then Dundee's Jim Murphy put over an equally good left wing cross which Peter Mackie netted adroitly past the helpless Rough.

And for the winner a minute later, Iain Ferguson showed great control on the by-line before crossing low. It looked a defender's ball but Mackie toed it first time into Rough's left hand corner.

The goals apart, the nearest things to scores were almost identical. Thistle's Ian MacDonald headed a McGeachie header from under his bar, and Danny Cameron did ditto at the other end from a Watson chip.

So Thistle's Ibrox glory soon evaporated. Only Dunlop, Watson, MacDonald, and Doyle earned pass marks for them.

Dundee, staunch rather than scintillating, were best served by Cameron, MacDonald, McGeachie, and Mackie. Andy Dunlop was booked near the close for a foul on substitute Ian Fleming.
