What a game. Only once in a blue moon do you see a game like this-a thriller containing more meat than the E.E.C. beef mountain.
And what a start. With the gale behind them, Dundee attacked pronto. A Cammy Fraser shot hit debutant Davidson's post.
Ferguson shot low from the rebound and Pat McCluskey, trying to clear, battered the ball past his own 'keeper.
For about 20 minutes it was all Dundee. Then Airdrie laid seige to Geddes' goal which had several miraculous escapes.
Sandy Clark equalised from a penalty given for a Glennie foul on Flood.
Soon after the game boiled over when Marsh and Fleming, who had been conducting a feud more violent than the Healey-Benn affair, clashed in midfield.
The net result was marching orders for the Dundee man and a caution for Marsh, which was a shade lucky for Jim.
The first half ended with McCluskey retiring injured and Geddes making a great save from Flood.
Turn round Dundee were at the early scoring lark again. Rodger handled-it looked accidental-and lain Ferguson sank a sweet spot kick.
Tommy Walker netted a magnificent 25-yarder to equalise. Then in a goal mouth melee instigated by Flood, Les Barr trying to clear, thumped the ball against Clark's shins from where it rebounded home.
Finally Flood seemed to make the most of it when fouled by Cameron. Any how, another penalty was awarded and Clark again made the most of that.
Anderson was booked for fouling Ferguson, MacDonald for dissent, and Rodger for persistent fouling.
Gallant, handicapped Dundee had great service from Geddes, Cameron, Glennie, MacDonald and Ferguson.
Airdrie were giants all, with Walker, Thompson, Marsh, Clark and Flood extra special.
