Newspaper extract from The Courier.
In a tense nail-biting affair at Rugby Park last night Dundee gave as good as they got against the Premier Leaguers and finally ensured their advance to the next round with a perfect display of penalty kicking at the end.
After the preliminary sparring Dundee were first to show chen a Cammie Fraser deflected shot had young Jim Brown scrambling as it just missed his left hand post.
Killie's reply was a Gibson shot too high to cause Geddes any sweat.
Midway through the half two Dundee fouls some 35 yards out almost cost them dear. Geddes had to make a brave save at Cramond's feet from the first and a Bourke header went awfully close from the second. In 25 minutes the inevitable happened.
Stuart McLean was booked for a foul on Shirra and next minute McDicken and Schaedler looked like coming to blows until Referee Downies stepped between them.
In the 35th minute young Jim Brown in the Killie goal, Satur day's eight goal nightmare for gotten, got a great cheer for cleanly clutching a Mackie cross.
Five minutes from the interval Cammie Fraser was booked for a foul on Cramond which looked accidental and the first half ended with Geddes doing well to parry a fierce McDicken header.
Only four minutes into the second half McLaren became the second Dens Parker to be booked when he fouled Clark, injuring himself in the process.
In 67 minutes Dundee had a real stroke of luck when a Bourke header hit the post and rebounded into Geddes' hands.
Three minutes later Dundee sent on Murphy for Mackie and in the 75th minute Sinclair missed the pinch of the match sending over the bar from only five yards out from a Fraser cross.
The next Dundee introduction was Williamson for Fletcher and the newcomer was only on for two minutes when he went very close with a header from a Murphy cross.
In the 80th minute Killie substituted Gibson with Street, but the deadlock could not be broken.
In extra time Houston missed a pinch as blatant as Sinclair's previous one and eight minutes from the end Davie Sneddon sent on ace spot kicker George Maxwell for Cramond.
And so to penalty kicks. Shirra, Fraser, Murphy, Williamson and Barr all netted decisively for Dundee as did McLean, Houston and Clark for Killie.
But Bobby Geddes saved Killie's first penalty from George Maxwell, so Davie Sneddon's ruse did not come off.
