Newspaper extract from The Sunday Post.
You could feel the heat of Brannigan's blush from the press box! With just over the hour played, big, blond Andy made a terrible hash of a shot.
But it turned itself into a peach of a pass to McCoist, who Dundee management please note -had time to tame it and consider all options before ram ming it past the helpless Geddes,
That was only one mistake in an untidy scramble of a game which had more than its share of unforced errors.
Fiercely physical, with players bouncing. tumbling and diving like circus acrobats and fouls
galore. Saints thoroughly deserved their win. Outplayed by the Dark Blues. for most of the first half, they kept at it and by midway through the second period had shattered the
visitor's smoothness,
The Dundee defence looked a
sorry lot indeed in the last 20
minutes, and even when the visitors were moving along nicely in top gear early on it was St Johnstone who should have scored. Brannigan, again unmarked, wheeled and hit one over from
8 yards when it looked impossible not to score. Dundee had little to offer in the way of shooting, although
McGeachie and Murphy came
reasonably close.. Once the Perth men got in front they improved tremen dously Redford. with no defender in sight,. hit the side net and Geddes had to be on his toes, Dundee made the gamble of re placing defender Barr with striker Fleming, but there was no improvement
Exempt Geddes, Shirra, and Sinclair from criticism-but all the other Dark Blues disappointed. fr St Johnstone, Rutherford, Pelosi, McCoist, and Morton were always prominent-and then there was Brannigan
