Newspaper extract from The Sunday Post.
Kilmarnock performed the burial ceremony on Dundee's Premier League existence with sturdy a second-half display. However, the corpses showed several signs of life for the opening half-hour. During this spell, in fact, Dundee might well have scored two or three times.
Peter Mackie provided the first thrill when he cut in from the right wing and fired a cracking left-footer which McCulloch superbly tipped round the post.
And it was the Killie 'keeper more than anyone who broke the Dens Park hearts, with an excellent performance. Even when a Sinclair header ricocheted off Clarke's knee and bounced behind him, McCulloch swooped to pounce on the ball on the goal line.
After the break, the visitors changed their tactics completely and were rewarded for it.
First, Gordon Cramond received a right-wing cross in Dundee's penalty-box and tapped it nicely into the path of McDicken. The big defender deceived a Dundee defender with a neat turn and crashed a low grounder into the net.
Before Dundee could recover. they conceded a free-kick on their 18-yard line, and Joe Cairney stepped up to fire a magnificent left-footer past Donaldson.
Dundee charged gamely forward, but their moves lacked the guile to deceive Killie's excellent rearguard.
The last straw, as far as Dundee's goal-scoring efforts were concerned, came 10 minutes from the end when keeper McCulloch parried a point-blank Fleming header on to the crossbar, and Sinclair's shot on the rebound was kicked off the line by McDicken.
In the end. Killie's teamwork won the day. Every manjack had a job to do and he carried it out professionally.
A sorry day for the homesters. They had brief moments of sparkle, but Killle's goals plus Alan McCulloch knocked the stuffing from them. Barr. Schaedler, McGeachie and Mackie merit a mention,
