Match Report

It certainly was a bemused Jim Clunie who left Love Street yesterday.

He could never have fore seen that his team could have played football as sparkling as vintage champagne in the first half, yet produce such a flat, uninspired performance in the second.

Certainly they clinched the game with a second-half goal from Doug Somner when he squeezed between two defenders to slip a Bone cross under Donaldson, but this again disguised the fact that Dundee were well worth the points on their second half performance.

In the first half the nearest they had come was when Thomson dived to hold a Jim Murphy 25-yarder. But in the second half Thomson saw a Murphy shot swerve past the post, had to punch the ball off the line while under pressure from Fleming, and produced the save of the match when he flipped a Fleming shot from eight yards over the bar.

Unfortunately, by the time Sinclair headed home Shirra's corner, it could only be a consolation for Dundee.

They had fallen behind early on when Saints' super striker Doug Somner shot home from 12 yards after Stark had done the leading up work.

After that Dundee were under constant pressure as Saints' football flowed superbly, but they were unable to turn their advantage into goals.

Best for Dundee were Barr, Murphy, and Mackie while for Saints, Fulton, Bone, and Logan soured above their team mates
