Mark this down as the day St Mirren finally forgot about Messrs Fitzpatrick and McGarvey.
Granted Dundee were not the most star-studded of opposition. But Saints were rampant most of the time, with several of their young men growing up before our very eyes.
Early on, tea-strainer defences gave us a potent brew with three goals within nine minutes .
A Munro free kick led to the first. Bone nodded on, Caldwell fluffed, and Billy Stark stooped low to head home.
Then from a Dundee free kick, a McLaren header came off Thomson's bar and McGeachie lashed Dundee's opener unattended.
For the next, Richardson sent Bone down the right. Jimmy's cross looked clear able, but Doug Somner sneaked in and chipped home Saints' second.
The Paisley side repeated this recipe for their third. Richardson to Bone-a hard cross and Peter Weir fired an unsaveable shot past Ally Donaldson.
It looked all over when Somner nodded in a Stark cross after the interval. But give Dundee their due, they kept plodding away and more momentary slackness in Saints rear let wee Jim Murphy head home a Sinclair cross at the far post.
In addition to their four goals. Saints' shooting also brought out the best in Donaldson. His saves from Bone (twice); Somner, Torrance, and Munro (twice) being top-drawer stuff.
