Match Report

Dundee put up a stonewall defence at Somerset Park last night, but still managed to win the night with an Ian Redford goal just before half-time.

In the first half Ayr gave everything and most of the play was to their advantage.

In four minutes Donaldson punched away a Connor cross with Morris challenging.

Watson was booked for a foul on Frye in the seventeenth minute. A good shot by Christie in the 21st minute from 25 yards was well held by Donaldson.

Dundee were lucky in the 23rd minute when Armour tipped round the post from a corner.

McGeachie was booked for a foul on Christie on the half hour.

Armour and Christie both had good efforts before a Connor header hit the post with Donaldson beaten.

Then in the 41st minute Dundee went ahead. Fletcher floated a perfect cross for lan Redford to nod home.

Connor was booked for a foul just on half-time.

Another booking. Referee Delaney was certainly taking a hard line as yet another player fell foul of his book.BThis time it was Kelly for an infringement on Fletcher.

Ayr's Masterton came on for McSherry in the 60th minute. Dundee now closed the ranks and the ball was continually channelled back to Donaldson.

Donaldson had to make a diving save from a free kick by Connor.

Minutes later Masterton hit a fine drive but again Donaldson held it well.

Ayr kept pressing but the excellent Donaldson kept them at bay.
