Match Report

You could say George Maxwell "ghosted" through this game. After all, ghosts go bump in the night. George goes thump in the daytime!

Twice he clobbered shots past the helpless Ally Donaldson, and once he brought out a brilliant save by the 'keeper. Which wasn't a bad day's work for the unfit Joe Cairney's stand-in!

Killie won looking round in the end, yet Dundee got off to a dream start.

Jim Shirra crossed a beauty from the right and the home defence played statues, which let Stewart McLaren sneak in to head home powerfully at the far post.

Not much else happened until lanky John Bourke popped in his first-ever Premier League goal. A McDicken shot was blocked and the ball spun to big John, who volleyed it home knee high.

Next minute Dundee had a spot of bad luck when scorer McLaren had to retire injured, and Killie went ahead when Maxwell took a precise Bourke head flick to blast his first goal past Donaldson.

Nine minutes after the interval, it was all over for Dundee. Shirra conceded a foul some 25 yards out. Killie didn't even think of sending for Morton's Andy Ritchie!

Instead, Jim Clark tapped the ball sideways and Maxwell rifled No. 3 past the diving Dundee 'keeper.

20 minutes from time Jim Shirra was red-carded for a bad foul on Jim Clark. Bobby Glennie had previously been shown the yellow pasteboard for dumping Gibson.
