Manager's Programme Notes

I have been putting it on the line this week to everyone concerned in our promotion bid. Clydebank can total 57 points if they win all their remaining games. Kilmarnock can reach 56 points if they win all their matches.

So, in the first place. Dundee have to win all their home games. Then we have to get one point from three away games. That will be enough to give us promotion and, if our rivals drop points, give us the champion ship too.

My message is that we will be promoted if we play to our ability. It is as simple as that.

At this time in the season, when the rewards for success are high, everyone gets a little bit edgy during the run-in, so we must try to build up the players for each game. Our fans can help in this by showing from the start the lads have solid support on the terracing and maintaining that throughout each game.

I am putting everyone in the picture realistically. If we drop points no one should panic because we have leeway to allow for mistakes.

We totalled 57 points last season and missed promotion. That total will be good enough to bring Premier League football back to Dens Park next season and probably enable us to fly the championship flag as well. I confess I thought the points needed would have been more.

If we approach all our games in the correct manner, and remember the approach could be different for each match, and our play matches our ability, we are as good as there. But everyone must approach each game in the right manner..

Our supporters can help us a great deal by encouraging the players and not becoming impatient if goals don't go during the early stages of our games. The fans did well for us in our home game against Q.O.S. when we played well in the early stages but the chances did not go in.

Some decisions went against us at Dumbarton and we had a strong penalty claim turned down. I think we deserved a point at least.

At Kirkcaldy on Wednesday we made lots of chances but did not score in the first half. Two goals in the second half won the points but we lost a bad goal a couple of minutes from the end.
