Match Report

Celtic were the first to attack with a Dalglish shot, followed by a Macari cross that created a lot of trouble. Dundee defenders stood up well to this initial onslaught and Doug soon came into the game as an attacking force. Skipper Houston led the way. Then John Scott began to take a hand. He put Gordon Wallace in possession, but Gordon was judged to be offside. Jocky himself had a go from 25 yards. A good shot, which hit a defender and went wide.

In seven minutes a corner for Dundee - and a truly great goal. John Scott's kick found George Stewart who headed on to lan Scott. lan rose high to head the ball into the corner of the net with Williams gropping helplessly.

Spurred on by this Dundee turned on the style and six minutes later they scored a second goal. In a fine concerted movement from just inside their own half the home side carried the ball forward. John Scott beat two defenders and sent a per fect pass to John Gray. The young ster evaded a tackle and then, from 16 yards, slammed in a low shot which beat Williams all ends up.

Celtic, playing football which has brought them so many honours, hit back, but the Dundee defence was capable of the task. It was fine end to end stu mainder the half and young Gray saw a good effort cleared off the line bv Murdoch. Just on the interval Dalglish broke through, but Mike Hewitt fingertipped his shot for a corner.

Immediately on the restart Dalglish again! This time his header from a Callaghan cross was just wide. Dun dee replied through the two Wilsons. First Jimmy sent over a great cross which lan Scott headed goalwards. Williams cleared at the second attempt. Next full back Bobby Wilson came up for a go. His 20 yard drive hit a defender for yet another corner.

Their tails up Dundee went all out for more goals, John Gray again went close. Then Jocky Scott hammered one into the side net.

With Dundee dictating the play Celtic pulled off McCluskey, who had been injured earlier on and Dixie Deans came on.

Twelve minutes from the end, Dundee followed suit. Gordon Wallace who had done a tremendous amount of running, was feeling his thigh injury, which had kept him out of action in recent games. Alec Pringle came on in his place. Straight away Alec sent a fine cross to lain Scott, who flicked the ball to Gray. It hit Williams and went out of play.

Houston and Pringle took knocks in the closing minutes, as Celtic pressed. Dundee's defence stood firm.
