Match Report

"In only one game in South Africa - in Pietermaritzburg - did we finder it hotter than Dens on Saturday," said Dundee players after their win in the roasting sun against Stirling Albion.

The Dark Blues were a fit looking lot, but it took them 30 minutes before they got on top of the fighting Annfielders.

In the 20th minute when Stirling scored, the Dundee defence were in a dither and I was never happy about them. They had lost that well-known compactness.

Jack Cowan's crispness in kicking was missing. Doug Cowie wasn't so sure in the tackle. Ken Ziesing wasn't getting to the ball with his usual sureness.

Perhaps it was fortunate their were not up against crack forwards. Stirling's right-wing, Jackson and Chalmers, gave Dundee's left side a real shaken up.

I give forwards, Hill, Flavell, Steel and Christie full marks. That 30 seconds after-the-start goal came from a thoughtful Steel-Christie-Flavell move.

The six goals came because the forwards had at least shown that zip and power shooting we had been looking for. And George Hill at last "made" a goal from one of his long throw-ins.

Turnbull tried hard but was often awkward on the ball.

The Stirling side were good one the ball but their big weakness was the players failing to take up position.
