Newspaper extract from The Sunday Post.
A blue day for Bayview, but a red letter day for the spectators. Thrills lasted till the final whistle.
Dundee were a dream team in the first half, a regular rhapsody in dark blue. Flashing shots came from Joyner and Juliussen. Sparkling football from Smith, Ewan, and Pattillo.
It seemed a runaway victory, but the Fifers four goals down, staged such an inspiring rally they almost earned quality.
The Dens' defence had many bad moments But Reuben Bennett remained unruffled. He was superb. Then fortunes switched and the Dundonians put the result beyond doubt.
East Fife needn't worry. The team is good, though Tommy Adams and Sneddons were badlymissed. Stewart was far and away the best defender on view, and Aitken the strongest Half-Back. The forwards were grand in the outfield, but only Duncan showed sufficient punch near goal.
New men had good game, particularly Dougie Davidson. Oncehe gets rid of hisjunior touches and a little rash impetuosity, this boy will bring dividends. Morris distribited well, and was worth goal or two.
This Dundee lot is going to do big things. All five forwards were fond of shooting at every chance. They should bring high figures into the "goals for" column.
Behind the shining lights were Reg Smith and Bobbie Ancell. Cowie steadied up well after shaky a start.
Three penalties, with each side missing one, plus disputed decisions and chalked-off goals, kept the game lively. Julie's third goal, the disallowed one, appeared to me one of the best.
Football would be a wonderful pastime if all the games were like this one. It had everything.
