Match Report

Newspaper extract from The Courier.

This was Soccer elegance from Dundee.

They gave us a first half exhibition of swift, sure work. from goal out-with some really superlative forward play.

United were unlucky in that they lost two goals through slips, first by goalkeeper Ugolini then full-back Briggs. Yet they staged their best spell when they were three down.

They pulled one back and promised briefly before fading out of the picture.

Dundee slackened off in the second half, A forward switch between Irvine and Mochan did nothing to help United's attack and Dundee just coasted to victory.

The first 35 minutes were gilted for Dundee, With Gilzean leading them in tremendous style they surged in on United with crisp accurate passing.

On the left, Robertson was torpedoing his way down the wing while Gordon Smith, chipped, flicked and caused all sorts of bother on the right.

Penman and Cousin were doing their stuff, too, so it was an all star forward line.

Liney put in a good afternoon's work in goal for Dundee. He had some excellent saves when United were striving to get back into the game.

Wing-half Alex Stuart marked his return to the team with sound work in defence attack and Seith was good, too. and

In the middle Ian Ure gobbled up everything in the air and missed little on the ground.

The entire forward line was smooth as silk in that electric first half.
