Match Report

These clubs completed their league engagements on on Saturday at Ibrox Park, Govan. There was a large attendance of spectators, over 2000 present.

The teams were:- Dundee - Coventry; Darroch and Burgess; Dundas, Longair and Hendry; Thomson, Gilligan, Toman, Black and Keillor.

Rangers - McLeod; N. Smith and Drummond; Gibson, Burns and Mitchell; McIntyre and McReadie, Oswald, McPherson and A. Smith.

Referee: J. Campbell, Heart of Midlothian.

Winning the toss, Dundee kicked off. No scoring took place in the first half, and Dundee for the most part acted on the defensive. The Rangers forwards and Drummond, the back, peppered the Dundee goal, but Coventry, the visitors goalkeeper - a splendid eleven man - and the backs saved splendidly.

A one point a break away by the Dundee left gave Keillor a chance, but he shot too soon, and sent the ball past.

After the interval the Rangers were making off, when a smart return by Hendry brought them up. Black got through the halves, but Drummond spoiled his try. Then the Rangers came away, and made Coventry work. Time after time he cleared when it looked all over. Another couple of corners for Rangers were useless. From a scrimmage, however, McPherson at length beat Coventry, and scored the first goal for the Rangers.

Just after this McPherson had to retire to the pavilion after coming into contact with one of the Dundee backs. He was only gone a few minutes, however. Nothing daunted, the Dundee went at it with a will, and Toman, getting between Smith and Drummond, passed over to Keillor, who beat McLeod with a scorcher of a shot.

With the game again even, the teams both strove to get on the leading goal. The Rangers secured it, a grand shot from McReadie landing into the net. The Rangers had now got the upper hand, and when McReadie scored a third goal shortly, after, it was all up with Dundee.

From this till the close the Rangers held the upper hand. The result was:- Rangers, goals; Dundee, 1 goal.
