Biography

Archie replaced Donald Mackay as manager in season 1983-84. Knox had a tremendous pedigree, coming from Aberdeen who had recently won the Cup Winners Cup.

In his two seasons in charge he took Dundee to the brink of European football only to lose out on the last day to Rangers. He was previously manager of Forfar where he began his playing career going to play for St Mirren, Dundee United and Montrose before returning to Station Park as player/manager.

In 1980, he became Alex Ferguson's right-hand man. After leaving Dens, he went back to Pittodrie before he and Ferguson went south to Manchester United.

He subsequently had stints under Walter Smith as assistant manager at Ibrox and at Everton,
